Remote Control Cars - A Toy Or A Real Hobby

Many people look at Radio Control Cars as just toys and sometimes they are near the truth.
The main reason for that is that Radio Controlled Toys have in the past couple of years got

a LOT better in quality and even in performance.

This is not to say that Hobby grade Model "RC" ( radio control) Cars have lagged behind as they are certainly much more like driving a real car or truck than they were even 2 years ago.

There is not such a fine line any more between Radio Control Toys and Hobby Grade cars.
Both are available as either 4 wheel drive or all terrain vehicles or as racetrack style cars for use on flatter surfaces or even paving stones perhaps even indoors.

The main differences now are on the engines and for toys these are usually electric and
are powered mainly by AA or rechargeable batteries.

One thing to watch for is the difference between

Radio Control and Remote control remote control is usually a wire going from the car to the controlling handset whereas a Radio Control Car is not connected physically but commands are given by a wireless connection from free wireless transmitter handset to a receiver inside the car or truck.

Toy Cars are sometimes looked down on by some people in the Hobby communities but if people derive pleasure from toy grade cars then I am in favour of that.

Recently Toy cars come with much more durable bodies as makers know that some users like to stage collisions ! (But like their cars to work afterwards)

Hobby Grade Radio Control cars are pretty much always Radio Controlled.
Older models may be remote control.

These are sometimes very collectible.

One of the big differences is that Hobby Grade Cars are repairable in case of damage while many toy grade cars will just have to be patched us as best as the owner can manage. Spares are very rarely available for Toy Grade cars.

This is because Hobby grade cars now are mainly capable of being upgraded and spare parts are generally easily available.

The reason for this is that hobby grade cars often need tuning or the owners want to add
flashy new exhaust pipes, steering units or other great addons .

This is one of the ways that Hobby Car makers use to make extra income.
They supply a demand but sometimes supplies coming from the Far East take a while to arrive.

Electric cars are some of the cheapest and have minimal servicing needs like minor cleaning and replacing worn parts.

They are probably the best starter cars for a novice driver and are generally quite durable.
Electric cars are now supplied mainly with "brushless" engines and some earlier ones can be upgraded.

Nitro Cars have real small combustion engines - a miniaturized version of car engines although they run on special fuel based on Nitromethane,Methanol and oil - supplied usually by hobby stores.
These engines are known as Glow Plug engines and the cars powered by them can reach quite high speeds.

The engines can be replace often with larger capacity ones that supplied by the maker . These do however need a bit more maintenance as the fuel does spray around a little and they also need tuning.

It is much easier for the novice to buy a pre-tuned car in this category
These are known as Ready To Run cars.

Generally the Nitro cars are about 20 percent bigger than Electric Cars due to the
glow plug engines and they are much faster. (There are actually many different cars available and the crossover between electric and Nitro Cars in output is sometimes similar).

The next grade up is Hobby grade cars with real engines - these are known as "Gassers" or "Fuelies" and have much bigger engines similar in size to brush cutter engines and with a corresponding increase in power.
These are for the real enthusiast and cost much more than Nitro or Electric models.

Cars for Racing have very specific requirements for engine size and other needs.
You will always receive a transmitter handset with your radio control car and a manual.
Keep the manual safe - you WILL need it.

Second user cars are popular as many users upgrade.
Always make sure you get the manual and an assurance that the car will not be "DOA" (dead on arrival!).

If the car is not functioning properly then get your money back.
It is a good idea if buying at auction to always use Paypal which covers you for up to $500 in this case or in the case of nondelivery.

Sesame Street Elmo & Pals Figures in a Tube 3-Pack: Elmo, Big bird, Zoe

Have you found yourself running out to the mall and buying toy after toy for you kids simply because they have friends who have this toy, only to find the toy isn't even played with a couple of weeks after being purchased. The cycle then resurfaces for the next toy of the moment your child tells you he or she wants. Playing with toys is not only be fun, but with the right toys play time can also stimulate your child's imagination and creativity. Although malls have many toy stores and department stores, these stores tend to all carry the same set of toys and products. They follow the tried and true formula for carrying products, allowing for little to no unique products.

Children tend to want the same toys as their friends simply because whoever is first to get it will be the proud owner of a new unique toy. This novelty of having a unique toy soon wears off as each of your children's friends now has this same toy, all purchased from the same store in the mall. A child's creativity needs the right creative toys to continue growing.

As a parent you walk a fine line between spoiling a child and rewarding them with new toys. But from experience you know that the euphoria from having a unique toy fades as the toy becomes mainstream. What are you to do so as to not fall in this cycle?

The answer is found on the Internet! Many toy stores have opened online selling unique, creative, imaginative, or simply hard to find toys products. Very few specialty stores will carry products that can be found at another store that specializes in carrying unique items.

The next time a toy purchase is planned, why not bring your child with you to the computer and show them all of the stuff they never would have known exists if you had gone to shop at your area mall. You never know what you could find.

Does your child like building blocks, such as Legos? Then why not try Clics, a building material that clicks together with endless opportunities for your little one. Blast off to the moon, or to completely new worlds with the Clics rocket, or ride the Orient Express with the Clics train set. And those are simply the special Clics sets. With buckets of Clics there is no limit as to what can be built. Creativity and imagination are able to run free while designing the next great structure.

Buying toys online also make it easy to find the perfect unique birthday or holiday gift for not only your own child, but for family and friends as well.

Elmo Messenger Bag

This full sized messenger bag (approximately 13.5" - 15"W X 11-11.5" - 12 'H X 4" - 4.5"D), lots of storage, has the following features: Zippered main compartment. Adjustable shoulder straps. Licensed Product.

Parents can play an essential role in making their child to learn to share. Children are generally possessive and as they grow they tend to share their things.

"Whenever, my daughter asks for a toy or any other stuff from her elder brother, he simply refuses." This is one of the most common concerns among parents. But, there is no need to worry, as it is natural. Young children are often not ready to share their stuff, but parents can encourage them to do so.

You should not expect a child below three years to share his/her belongings. Interestingly, children can share someone else's things easily; when it is their own they tend to be too possessive.

Here are some significant steps to encourage sharing in your child:

  • As all of us know that Parents are the best teachers, so act as a role model for your child. Start sharing with your child and he/she will soon understand its worth. Moreover, the child will soon enjoy sharing with others.
  • Start lessons for sharing at a very young age. For instance, motivate your child to play with some other child and share his/her toys. Later, praise your child for sharing his/her toy and describe how his/her friend felt about it.
  • You must act as a friendly guide to your child. Whenever your child demands a toy, which his/her friend had then get some other one. Get that toy to your child after some time and he/she will learn to wait.
  • While you encourage sharing habit in your child, you must have patience. Expecting instant generous behaviour from your child would be too much to expect. Give your child some time to grow and understand. It would be advisable not to punish your child if he/she does not share.

Try these tips with your child and you will soon find your child growing up fine.

A Webkinz Is A Small Toy Pet With Huge "Grass Roots" Appeal

Have you ever heard of a toy that sold more than one million units in it first fourteen months without the parent company ever spending any money to advertise it? How about the fact that it is only sold in certain specialty stores (and cannot be purchased in many popular toy stores) yet these toy pets are selling at the rate of over ten thousand each week. When I last checked Ebay, the site had over ten thousand of these toys for sale. As you can see, this toy pet is wildly popular with the more than five hundred thousand customers who have "adopted" it for children between the ages of five and twelve. The name for this toy is Webkinz.

I first discovered Webkinz several weeks ago. After a day of teaching first grade, my wife returned home with that gleam in her eye that tells me that she has thought of a new and unique way to educate her first graders. She told me that her classroom had adopted a pet frog called "Froggie" and that the children were very excited. I thought a pet frog would be great in a first grade classroom and wanted to know who would feed it. She told me that feeding "Froggie" would require money that the children could raise online through the pets interactive website. I was confused until she told me that the frog was really a toy pet called a Webkinz.

Since I had never heard of a Webkinz, I was interested in learning more. Webkinz is produced by the Ganz company headquartered in Toronto, Canada. It is a small stuffed animal somewhat larger than the size of a beanie baby. There are about thirty five different types of Webkinz that can be purchased /adopted as pets. You can adopt pets that include pandas, cats, poodles, pigs, monkeys, and frogs. Webkinz pets can only be bought for adoption through specific independent gift and toy stores. The adopted Webkinz comes with a secret code that is used to register the toy pet and gain access to its highly interactive world in cyberspace. In this world in cyberspace you can name and feed the pet, design its room and raise cash through interactive games that can be used to develop the toy pet's life and story. The online activities are designed to teach children to be responsible, nurturing pet owners and to save and budget. The Ganz company also now sells Webkinz charms ,clothing and playing cards.

My wife certainly proved to be correct in the adoption of the toy pet frog for the classroom. Her first graders loved playing and learning with "Froggie" their adopted class mascot . Some of the educational activities in her class room that used the Webkinz included writing about the frog using descriptive paragraphs with illustrations, researching the red eye tree frog as well as math activities that sometimes utilized the Webkinz interactive website. The class even wrote a letter to the Ganz company suggesting ideas for future Webkinz toy pet designs.

However, it was her final class activity that astounded me the most. She asked the class how many of these adopted toy pets that they owned at home. When the counting had stopped, her twenty five students told her that they owned four hundred twenty one Webkinz.

That unadvertised small toy pet certainly has huge grass roots appeal.

Most of us know that throughout the years there have been countless trends that have come and gone, especially in the area of children's toys. While some stay around for years due to popularity, others fade with time and end up being collectors items. One of the newest and hottest trends at the moment is the Webkinz stuffed animal.

Many of us are familiar with the Beanie Baby craze that spread across the nation and became one of the most sought after toys for both children and collectors alike. Now a new toy has become one of the hottest growing trends out there not only due to their cute and cuddly nature but to their innovative ideas to combine cute stuffed animals with the power of the internet with Webkinz World ...and the Webkinz stuffed animal was born.

These new toys target a generation that are growing up using computers and the internet by allowing them to not only have a cute and cuddly stuffed animal they could play with, but also give them a chance to get online and play with their Webkinz and friends there, adopting them and taking care of them like a real pet.

In the past there have been a few other toys that have attempted to use the edge of being able to take care of their virtual pet by feeding it, playing with it etc but there are a few things those toys lacked...the ability to interact with other players in a safe environment and the lack of a ever changing world that uses games to teach children in a fun way. Once again, Webkinz has become a innovator. Their chat and mail systems are specifically designed to allow players to chat with friends safely without the dangers that many other chat areas have. They even have parental controls and promote the parents to get involved with their child duing game play so they can better understand how things work and how safe the system is.

Webkinz doesn't stop there. They have a ever growing collection of new pets that can be purchased and played with online, sets of clothing for their pets to wear both on and off line, school supplies, trading cards and more. Ganz, the company that makes the Webkinz stuffed animals as well as the rest of the products has captured the attention of their target audience well with a product that provides a safe online experience as well as educational games that will make Webkinz popular for many years to come.

Webkinz Stuffed Animals are the hottest craze these days. Not only are they stuffed animals children can play with, but they also get access to Webkinz World where they can play fun games with their pet and friends.

Sesame Street Elmo Water Babies

Sesame Street Elmo Water Babies

Here's how you can drop 10 pounds easy using an exotic Asian exercise and a CHEAP kid's toy. Perfect for busy women since you won't even need to leave your house. If you can spare 10 minutes each day, then you can get rid of 10 pounds of fat in a short amount of time.

Drop 10 Pounds Easy

1. The exotic Asian exercise is the Hindu Squat

Using this exercise is 1 of the quickest ways to lose weight. The power of it comes from the speed at which you do it. It needs to be done fast.

Here's what you do... in your living room or wherever, put your feet about 15 inches apart and begin squatting as fast as you can. A key point... swipe your fingers against the ground between reps. That's a simple way to tell if you went far enough down in the squat for it to count.

Now, this can be quite the intense exercise for some. You'll be breathing hard. To start out, test how many squats you can do in 3 minutes. Try to do this non-stop... as many as you can.

Aim for 50-60 squats in 3 minutes. If you can do 50-60 or more, then graduate up to 100 squats in 5 minutes. And keep doing them everyday.

Hey, no excuses... it's only 5 minutes.

You still have 23 hours and 55 minutes each day to do whatever else you want. Isn't your health and body worth a measly 5 minutes of your time and focus? I sure hope so.

2. Hula Hooping

This is the cheap kid's toy. But it's not just for kids now.

Busy women are starting to turn to this to target fat from their waists and hips. And hula hooping is laser sharp at targeting it. I suggest you buy a weighted hula hoop that's slightly larger than the kid's sizes because this works best for adults.

Then simply "hoop it" for 5-10 minutes a day. I'll even give you a tip that I've been doing for years... do it during tv commercials.

You can drop 10 pounds easily if you consistently devote just 10 minutes a day to these 2 exercises.

Want to drop 10 pounds more? Then... Click http://www.weightlossguide4women.com for your FREE 19-PAGE report "How SPINNING Around Like a Child Skyrockets your Weight Loss".

The USGA's Favorite US Open Toy - The Stimpmeter

Meteorologists predicting potential hurricane damage have the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale that measures a storm's intensity from 1-5. Storm Chasers and the like following a tornado can rely on the Fujita scale to rate the intensity of an event by examining the damage caused by the tornado after it has passed over a man-made structure.

The "Golf Scientists" at the United States Golf Association also have the ability to make a tangible measurement to record another natural disaster of sorts, putting on U.S. Open greens.

The origins of the Stimpmeter date back to the 1935 U.S. Open at Oakmont. Various accounts tell the tale of Edward Stimpson, an accomplished golfer in his own right who captained the Harvard golf team and won the Massachusetts state amateur in 1935, who was watched from the gallery that year in Western Pennsylvania as the super quick greens prevented the world's best players from breaking par. According to one version, he watched in shock as Gene Sarazen putted a ball off the green and into a bunker.

Stimpson set out to create a device that would achieve accurate, objective and statistically valid measurements of the speed of a putting green.

What Stimpson created would be the foundation for the device used by the USGA today, although it wasn't exactly an overnight success. The Stimpmeter lay unused until the 1970s when the USGA finally relented and realized it needed a way to know the speed and consistency of the greens for its championship events.

The original design was altered by Frank Thomas, the USGA's senior technical director. The material was changed from wood to extruded aluminum (created by a process of shaping by forcing the metal through a die, somewhat analogous to squeezing toothpaste through a tube) to improve consistency. When Thomas was done, the device left standing was christened the Stimpmeter.

What is it?

The Stimpmeter is an extruded aluminum bar, 36 inches long, with a V-shaped groove extending along its entire length. It has a precisely milled ball-release notch 30" from the tapered end (the end that rests on the ground). The underside of the tapered end is milled away to reduce bounce as a rolling ball makes contact with the green.

The V-shaped groove has an included angle of 145 degrees; thereby supporting a golf ball at two points " apart. A ball rolling down the groove has a slight over spin, which is thoroughly consistent and has no deleterious effect on the ensuing measurements.

The ball-release notch is designed so that a ball will always be released and start to roll when the Stimpmeter is raised to an angle of approximately 20 degrees. This feature ensures that the velocity of the ball will always be the same when it reaches the tapered end.

Essentially, it's a device used to measure the speed of greens. It's a very low-tech; basically just a small metal ramp that is angled down to a flat part of a putting green. A golf ball is released down the ramp. How far the ball rolls determines the "stimp" or stimp rating of the green, which is a measurement of green speed.

How a "stimp" is calculated

To come up with a stimp rating, USGA officials need three golf balls, the actual device, a tape measure and a flat spot on the green. First, three different balls are rolled in one direction, and with a tape measure, an average distance in feet is calculated. Then the process is repeated in the opposite direction and that distance is recorded. Those two distances are averaged together and a reading is obtained. If, for example, the average roll is nine feet, the greens are said to be a nine on the Stimpmeter.

Quick, Fast and Really Fast

The Stimpmeter was first used by the USGA during the 1976 U.S. Open in Atlanta and made available to golf course superintendents in 1978. It should be noted that the official USGA Stimpmeter (painted green) is not sold to the public. However, it's no mistake that the device originated at Oakmont.

For last year's U.S. Open at Oakmont, the USGA wanted the greens rolling at 13 to 13.5 for the tournament, which is actually slower than some measurements taken during the year. In autumn, when conditions are drier, Oakmont greens register 14 to 15 or higher.

The consensus among PGA Tour golfers is that Augusta National Golf Club's bentgrass greens are the fastest putting surfaces they see each year, but the ultra-secretive club won't reveal what the greens measure on the Stimpmeter. Estimates place the readings at anywhere from 12 to 15.

The national average is said to be in the neighborhood of 9.5.

For this year's U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California, it's been reported that the greens will be rolling at 13 or 13.5; just where the USGA wants them.

So now when you're kicking back this weekend, enjoying the Open and watching the frustration mount on players faces as they struggle on the slick putting surfaces, you'll know what you're favorite announcer is talking about when he mentions the Stimpmeter.

Learn to Dress Elmo

When you think of children's toys, what first comes to mind? The chances are that it will be the toys that are around in shops today. Bright, colourful plastic creations with lights and buttons; toys that talk, eat, wee or tell you stories. But if this isn't the picture that comes to mind, then the chances are that you'll be taken back to the older days when toys were much simpler, and the only lights were those in the eyes of eager children, their imaginations fired up with just a handful of bricks. Remember the toy cars that you could push along, and that didn't have lights, sound effects, or a controller you could use to drive it? No more sitting on a chair watching the car whizz about - you were down there on the floor, on your hands and knees, tearing up and down the room making the sound effects yourself.

It's easy for the older generation to hark back to 'the good old days' when toys were simpler, and you had to use your imagination. It is also easy to assume that today's children don't have to use their imaginations as much, because it's all done for them, and that this is somehow having a detrimental effect on their well being, their understanding of the world, and their own health and fitness.

But what is also easy to do is to assume that the new toys we see are replacing the older ones, or that the games children play are replacing the ideas and concepts that we used to enjoy. In fact, if you watch children play, you'll be surprised how similar the games are. So you remember pushing a toy car along the floor on your hands and knees? In what way is that better than sitting on a chair and using a radio controller to drive the car about? It's hard to argue the case on the basis of health and fitness, and when it comes to motor controls and spatial awareness, the manoeuvring of a car around furniture when it is heading rapidly in various directions not directly parallel with the way you're facing can surely be argued as more educational?

It is also important to bear in mind the amount of time children spend with various toys. My little boy has a mountain of electronic gadgets that do amazing things. Some of the batteries have run down. He hasn't noticed yet - he still enjoys playing with them, often making his own sounds. The interactive teddy bear that waves, shakes his head and talks (which I find a little scary at times) is certainly prodded and poked to make him react, but equally he is quite content sitting with the non-interactive creatures having a tea party, or being dressed in odd outfits that the designers never dreamed of.

At the end of the day, children create their own games, whatever you throw at them. Children are just as happy given an interactive toy as they are a static one, and given a couple of cardboard boxes they are equally at home sailing round the world, flying into space and becoming a robot. Perhaps it is us, not our children, who have lost the ability to imagine ways of using today's toys in magical ways.

One thing that training puppies and raising kids have in common is that if you have their full attention, they will learn the lesson faster and better. Puppies make it easy on you because there is nothing they want more than your happy face pointed in their direction. To teach your puppy fast and easy, here are 5 ways to accomplish this:

1.) Use potty time. Puppies love to go outside. Since you are already rewarding him for fast response outside with loving praise and a happy face, use the excitement to work on another lesson at the same time.

For example, work on his leash breaking. Even if you have a fenced-in yard he should be getting at least some of his housebreaking time on a lead. A dog who is always loose in his yard when he goes will not go on-lead in a strange place. He will hold it so long you think he surely will burst. Of course this stress is not healthy for him, and you never know when you will need to take him out on-lead.

As soon as he is finished his potty and received his happy praise, say, "Wanna work?" in such an excited voice he will happily agree. Spend a few minutes with his heeling and sitting work, depending on where you are in his lessons, and give high praise. It does not have to be a full session, just an added minute or two to reinforce the lessons he is currently working on.

2.) Use meal times. At no point in the day do you have your dog's attention stronger than when he is hungry. Do not tease him with his food, ever, or take toooo long to give him his meal, but you can make a fun game out of a few little lessons before he receives his plate.

For example, since he should already be learning to sit calmly off to the side as his food is being prepared, (also when you are fixing your own), work on a short version that will encourage success. Rather than asking him to sit/stay for the whole long time, reward him with little bites as you go. If he sits for 30 seconds, give him a bite with high praise, release him for a moment, and place him again with a fresh command, only repeating the command when the first one ended in success. Never repeat a command if he fails to obey. In this case, quietly with a stern face, place his body back where you first put it with a light nudge to stress the point that "here is where you are supposed to be."

3.) Use the happy time when you let him out of his crate. You do not want to make too large a fuss when releasing him, just open the door and let him out, but of course it makes him happy and focussed on you anyway. Once he is free and you are loving him up, say, "Wanna work?" and do a little lesson, like sit, or down. Since he is excited only ask for 5 or 10 seconds at most, then praise praise praise! You must train when it is difficult for the dog to do it or he will only behave when he wants to behave, not when he NEEDS to.

4.) Use a new toy. Just like with his food and treats, do not withhold a new toy for longer than 2 minutes or so. Get his attention with it by letting him smell and taste it a little, without releasing it to him. The moment you give him complete control over a chewie or toy is a huge reward for him, so make him earn it. Do a few lessons, like a 1 minute down/stay or any other command that you are already working on. Do not introduce new lessons when the puppy is already excited. Use calm time for that.

5.) Use his regular session time. He loves his on-lead work time with you already, so before and after each work session, work on things that are not actually session work but, say, good doggy manners or just understanding English. For example, get his ball and teach him your call words, like "Fetch" or "Get it!", whatever you choose, make sure you keep using the same words over and over so he will learn them quickly.

Follow these tips in a consistent loving way and your puppy will learn faster than you ever thought possible, and become the best companion he can ever be.

As long ago as 6000 B.C., we know of the existence of games similar to modern day chess. Babylonians in 4000 B.C. also played a board game similar to traditional games of checkers and chess.

The first games of backgammon have been dated back to ancient Samaria in 3000 B.C. In Egypt, toy marbles were first fashioned out of stone. By 2000 B.C., Egyptians were making and playing with a number of children's toys and games. Dolls were made from string, paper, and other easy to find materials and board games much like our traditional game of checkers were played. At the same time, the first skates, constructed of iron, were in use in Scandinavia.

Traditional toys like kites and yo-yos were first introduced in 1000 B.C. Though kites were probably in existence long before, their first recorded appearance was in China during this time period. Greek children begin to play with yo-yos made of stone. Soon after, the first playing cards were dealt in Asia.

Over the next thousand years, many of the kids toys we know of today were designed in their earliest forms from crude materials. Most traditional toy inventions were not a recorded part of history until the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The first roller skates were invented in 1759 by a man named Joseph Merlin, and, like many traditional toys, they are still being refined and altered today to fit modern society.

The 19th century saw the introduction of many traditional toys in America and throughout Europe. Dolls were already being made in several European countries, but in 1840 an American doll maker began the first mass production of this still popular traditional toy. Only three years later, the first American board game was produced, called 'The Mansion of Happiness.'

Board games continued to be popular children's toys throughout the years. The Indian game, Parcheesi, is tone of he oldest toys to still be produced today and was introduced to England in 1867 as Ludo. As the 19th century drew to a close, more and more innovative traditional toys came into production. Traditional toys, like alphabet blocks, stuffed animals, and wagons and sleds, were all being commercially manufactured.

The late 1800's saw the introduction of toy guns and pistols, as well as the BB gun. The concept of talking toy dolls was perfected and high quality wooden toys were produced in a number of traditional toy styles, including train sets. Radio Flyer developed the traditional toy sled for outdoor winter fun and musical toys and soft toys were in mass production.

The early 20th century marked the invention of lots of traditional toys children still adore during playtime today. Battery powered train sets and the famous Lionel trains were invented in the early 1900's and the cherished teddy bear became more and more popular in the United States. Other traditional toys, like rag dolls, stacking rings, and all sorts of block varieties were also introduced during the first part of the 20th century.

Today, video games and electronic toys have gained a fair share of the toy market, but classic, traditional toys still continue to warm the hearts of children around the world. Traditional toys, like dolls, blocks, and board games, have been around for thousands of years and will most likely continue to be an important part of childhoods for thousands more.

Gary Clay is an expert on quality traditional toys and runs the UK's favourite shop for kids, Monkeyshine where you will find a range of luxury traditional toys for children.

As babies become more mobile they become more independent and eager to make new discoveries. Your baby "thinks" with her hands and mouth giving her many new and different items to discover.

Grasping (have 2 or 3 objects ready)

Baby should sit in front of you. Offer her an item in different ways i.e. turn it upside down, twist it etc. Repeat this with all the items. This is an important exercise as it helps baby realise that the same item can feel and look different. It also helps the development of hand dexterity.

Take a large container and a few blocks, balls or a range of objects. Encourage baby to put them in the container, then tip it out, then put them in again. If interest in the container and the items is lost, put them away so the game does not become stale. Next time you play, it will be a whole new experience.

Babies love opening drawers because there is so much to discover! In the beginning it will be difficult for baby to open heavy drawers, but eventually curiosity will get the better of her. Fill the bottom drawer in the kitchen with things that are safe to play with, then 'agree' that it is ok to play with that particular drawer. Baby will enjoy having her own little compartment. By the way, if you worry about the little one having trapped fingers, stick some draft excluder tape on the top of the drawer. You can easily take it off without leaving any marks and it won't allow the drawer to shut.

7 to 8 months

At about 7-8 months your baby learns the relationship between her actions and the consequences. Through this baby develops the ability to think ahead.

Give your baby a piece of baking paper. She should be excited to play with this. Eventually she should screw it up into a ball and put it in her mouth, she'll then see that once it is wet she can no longer play with it in the same way.

Helping Baby Crawl

Put your baby on her belly and put a toy on the floor about 15cm/6inches away. You can move the ball slowly left and right to encourage movement.

For a slightly harder exercise hold the toy in the air a little. This is much more challenging for your baby as she has to reach up with one arm whilst balancing with the other.

If your baby can't lift her belly despite a lot of effort, you can help him along a little. Take a length of soft fabric approximately 5" wide, put it around baby's chest like a belt and keep hold of both ends. Now lift your baby a little bit so she can balance easily on his knees and hands. If your baby does not like this, stop immediately and if she starts a 'swimming' motion, it is too early in her development for this exercise.

You and a partner sit on the floor opposite each other with your legs out creating a 'ladder'. Put baby at the start of the ladder and a toy at the other end to encourage her to crawl over it. To make it a little more tricky lift your legs off the floor slightly to increase the amount of co-ordination needed to overcome the obstacle.

Set out some big boxes, chairs or other large items into a slalom course so your baby has to crawl his way through them. Your baby will learn co-ordination and how to adapt to new circumstances. If your baby is unsure what to do, you should demonstrate the slalom course to her.

If your baby is a confident crawler, she will soon want new challenges and will look for every opportunity to pull herself up. Nothing is safe: sofas, coffee tables, even dogs! Suddenly she'll be standing on her own two feet and tentatively taking small steps to the side holding on for support. Eventually she'll gain the strength and confidence to take her first independent steps.

Football from the side: when your baby is standing supported by a coffee table etc hang a ball on a piece of string next to his feet. She will soon try to kick out at this from the side. This exercise encourages a sense of balance as baby moves from two feet onto one then back again.

If your baby can walk let her experience different textures underfoot. Carpet, wooden/laminate flooring, tiles, doormats and grass should all provide new interesting feelings.

It is important to remember that your baby only needs shoes when outside to protect her feet from the cold and wet. When indoors, she should walk barefoot (or perhaps slip proof socks if it is cold) as often as possible.

Elmo Tall Backpack with Wheels

Elmo Tall Rolling Backpack. Constructed of 600 denier polyester. The dimensions are 16 inches x 12 inches x 5 inches.

The founder of Lionel trains was Joshua Lionel Cowen. Born in 1877, as a boy Joshua was more interested in tinkering with mechanical toys than going to school.

In 1899 he patented a device photographers used to ignite flash powder using dry cell batteries to heat a fuse wire. Cowen later used a variation of this invention to land a contract with the U.S. Navy to detonate mines.

One day while walking through lower Manhattan, Cowen saw a wooden toy train in a store. He envisioned a toy train that would propel itself around a track. This vision became the foundation Lionel trains were built on.

The first Lionel train, the Electric Express, was not intended to be a toy, but a display for toy stores. Cowen and partner Harry Grant opened Lionel Manufacturing Company in 1900. The company first produced small battery powered electric fans.

The Electric Express was built for owner of the toy store where Cowan had seen the wooden train on display. The train was powered by the same motor that was used in the company's electric fans. Soon after the battery was replaced with a 110 volt electric transformer. Eventually twelve models of the Electric Express were sold.

Soon more products were developed, including a "City Hall Park" trolley and a two foot suspension bridge. In 1906 Lionel added a third rail which carried the current and changed the spacing of the outer rails, which were the ground rails, to 2 1/8" inches apart. This new track innovation was soon adopted by other manufacturers.

Lionel continued to gain popularity and soon began building passenger cars, coal cars, train stations and tunnels. In 1909 Cowen began calling his model trains 'the standard of the world". As more and more American homes were wired for electricity, model trains soon became a big business.

The company survived through the Great Depression and World War II, but fell on hard times in the 1950's. By 1959 revenue had dropped by more than 50%. The company was sold to a group of businessmen led by Cowen's great nephew. The company survives today despite several ownership changes since then.

Since Lionel trains inception, the company has sold over 50 million train sets. In 1999 Lionel trains were selected as one of the top 10 toys of the 20th century.

Elmo Plush Mini Handbag

Everyone loves Elmo at their birthday party! Officially licensed plush Elmo handbag features a furry texture, two plush handles and a zippered opening on top. 8" x 8"

Sesame Street Elmo Russian Nesting Doll 5 Pc / 4 in #4.133

Penguin webkins are those little stuffed Webkinz animal toys in the shape of a penguin. Webkinz are very cute beanie look-a-like plush toys in the shapes of various animals - cats, dogs, elephants, pandas, cows, seals, pigs, tigers, bears, snakes, monkeys and hippos to name but a few. The best thing about Webkinz are that they are totally fun, educational and absolutely safe.

Webkinz may be inexpensive, but before long you will find that your child has a whole zoo of penguin webkins and other Webkinz animals. They are 'alive' virtually for only a year and then they are retired. Thus, you have to buy new Webkinz toys for your kids to continue playing. But the good thing about it is that it keeps the kids at home. But beware, you may even catch yourself playing with a Webkinz toy, too, especially when the kids are away at school.

The Webkinz are toys that have somewhat realistic online virtual identities. Once you purchased the Webkinz toy, it allows you to log online with a secret code. The adoption code will arrive with the toy. Once you login to Webkinz World using your secret code, you basically have to take care of your virtual pets. Like Beanies, Webkinz are highly collectable and only a limited number are made in each design - after a certain time the Webkinz toy will be retired.

Webkinz are the hottest thing right now on the market. However, Webkinz are not available at the big toy stores or chain stores. Luckily, Webkinz are sold at several smaller stores like Hallmark Store, JcPenneys, and I have seen them at the Limited Too store. I think I saw an advertisement for them at Target some time ago. They are priced around $12-$15 a piece depending on the store.

Children have their preference for certain animals, but penguin webkins is one that make many young hearts flutter. Sometimes the stores mentioned earlier just run out of penguin webkins, but do not despair because all sort of Webkinz toys can easily be found online. The good news is that with their limited availability, Webkinz quickly become collectors items and you can see how their prices soar.

Noorazimah Taharim found that Webkinz are available through a variety of retail stores, as well as on the Internet. The penguin webkins you buy now may become one of the high priced collectors items, too. And that definitely can be a dream come true.

Fisher-Price Ba-Ba Baby Elmo

Ba-Ba Baby Elmo is a cute plush that is very thirsty and asks to have his "ba ba." Kids can feed baby Elmo by moving his arms and placing the bottle into his mouth. Elmo will start making a slurping feeding sound as he closes his eyes and kicks his feet. He might even give a little burp to let you know when he is done. Requires 3 "AA" batteries, included. Measures 12" tall.

Toy dog breeds include greyhounds, terriers, pinschers, pugs, chihuahuas, pekingese, spaniels--the official list of the AKC is quite extensive. Regardless of breed, toy dogs are desired for their cuteness and cuddle-ability. Many retain the characteristics of a puppy for their entire lives. This may be one of the big attractions that toy dog breeds hold over larger breed dogs.

Diminutive size, however, does not mean that toy dog breeds are less hardy. Once safely past puppyhood, their energy levels and enthusiasm rival any breed of dog. Some are excellent watch dogs, but they won't be able to follow through preventing entry of an intruder. The hue and cry of toy dog breeds can be enough to make your hair stand on end!

There are several advantages to toy dog breeds. Besides the ease of handling a smaller sized dog, they are more appropriate for apartment dwellers because they do not require as much exercise space as a large dog. Additionally, toy dog breeds usually shed less than their larger counterparts--not because they have different coat characteristics, but because there is less dog! All sides of dog care are smaller: from cleaning to clean-up and food consumed to food expelled.

Historically, toy dog breeds were used as companion dogs. They were friendly and alert, yet willing to be held and petted. They are very comforting and can bring peace to an owner. Nursing homes and adult care facilities have found toy dog breeds to be soothing for their patients. Contrary to common perception, there is no law preventing animals from living in nursing homes. It is up to the eldercare facility to allow--or disallow--pets. The calming influence of any pet, especially one that will transfer affections to everyone equally, is a wonderful aid for patient facilities.

You don't have to reside in an eldercare facility to enjoy toy dog breeds. They do provide companionable joy for many who otherwise would be concerned about space, exercise and care requirements of a larger breed of dog.

Sesame Street Elmo and Cookie Monster Carseat/stroller Attachment Toy

With another baby coming along, you think of tiny little things that would excite the mommies, too. But being a veteran of three children does not always assure that you have the best taste for baby gift sets and mommy advice. What if you're no mommy yet?

Mommy Sense

Mommies are supposed to know what's best for their babies. If you're no mom yet, think like a mom when you're getting a baby gift set for the newest member of the family. Here are some useful tips to remember before you invest your money in a memorable gift for the baby:

* Know the gender of the baby.

* Go for hypo-allergenic pillows and stuffed toys.

* Get practical gifts.

* For baby toy chests, be sure the item is certified non-toxic.

Since babies cannot appreciate gifts yet, get baby gift sets that make the mommies smile with contentment. Sensible gifts like feeding bottles and blankets make the grade because moms can stretch budgets when it comes to baby things.

For your part, this shaves off the time you spend poring over store catalogues for gift items for toddlers and infants, checking non-toxic and no-choke items while looking at the price range. That's what mommies do when they get things for their precious babies, it is safety first and budget next.

Extra Special Gifts

Of course, the firstborn of your best friends are extra special babies. The moment of truth has arrived. Your friend is now a mommy and you're still hoping to be one. Remember those high school and college casual chitchats about having kids? You'll remember that she wanted something truly special to celebrate her womanhood and in the same breath welcome the baby to the world.

Choosing the right baby gift can be a taxing exercise when it's your first time to get something for a special baby and when the occasion calls for extra special gifts with a personal touch. It's ridiculously funny that first time baby gift givers are petrified or anxious about the task of getting the right gift when baby can't have a say at all.

How about the gift of time? Spend more of your free time with your friend until she is out of the hospital, cook her favorite meals, and have a quiet celebration with her family at the hospital.

Or, you can splurge for your baby gift ideas - an oil painting rendition of the baby, a packaged CD of his baby pictures at the hospital, or a tape of cool lullabies. Baby jewelry for the posh babies will elate the fashionista mommies.

For the baby's visual development, you can make black and red or red and white mosaics for his mobile. Infants, contrary to belief, are not attracted to pastel colored stuffed toys and decals. But show them stark colors like black and red, they'll follow the color. So give them black, white, and red geometric visual treats, and they learn to focus and pay attention to details.

Or, you could a parenting CD for the first time parents who cannot make heads or tails of their roles when the baby is colicky, having tantrums, or bored. That would welcome the baby best to this stressed-out world. These baby gift ideas would be more than welcome.

Can't make up your mind about those baby gift sets, unique baby gifts, or creative baby shower gifts and toy sets? See them for yourself and you'll love them all at BabyLandGifts.com.

Sesame Street Elmo 15" Plush Backpack

Toy Poodles can live for up to 17 years or even longer if they live a healthy life. However, a Toy Poodle may not be able to live that long due to the occurrence of accidents, diseases or other health problems. That is why it is important for every dog owners to take necessary precaution to prevent accidents, diseases and other health problems as well. Owners of Toy Poodles should know that this variety of Poodle breed is prone to skin related problems - be it bacterial, fungal or allergic skin problems.

Bacterial Skin Infection. Also called pyodermas, bacterial skin infection is classified into three - surface, superficial and deep pyoderma. Surface pyoderma is characterized by itching and reddening of the skin with raised round scabs. When there is yellow pustules that break into larger wheals and scabs, then it is classified as superficial pyoderma. Deep pyoderma on the other hand, produces abscesses and oozing, inflammed channels in the skin surface. Bad odor is also present in this kind of skin problem. All areas of a dog's body may be affected but the trunk, chin, inside ears, toes and the calluses of the elbows are the areas commonly affected. Obese dogs and pug-nosed dog breeds are more likely to develop this skin problem. Go and see your veterinarian to determine the type of pyoderma since each type has different treatment. Treat as early as possible to prevent the disease from progressing and most importantly, follow your vet's advice to achieve successful results at the same time prevent the reoccurrence of the disease.

Fungal Skin Infection. Fungal infection in dogs are caused by fungi called Microsporum and Trichophyton. These fungi cause the disease commonly called ringworm. The most common symptom of ringworm is a small round lesion often with small pustules and scaly skin in the center. Areas commonly affected are the head, legs, feet and tail. Treatment vary depending on the degree of the disease. Most small lesions will usually heal on their own within four months. Some cases necessitates antifungal medication twice a day. Using of antifungal shampoos and dips also help alleviate the problem.

Allergic Skin Problem. Allergic skin problem is commonly caused by infection spread by the flea saliva as well as house dust, molds and pollens. Signs of this skin disease include itchy skin, nasal and eye discharges, digestive upsets and skin lesions. Affected areas are the face, feet, chest and abdomen. Upon diagnosis, the vet usually prescribe antihistamines and corticosteroids to control the itching. If flea infested, it is important that the fleas are killed on the dog and in the dog's environment.

My First Pal Elmo, Cookie Monster or Big Bird: My First Pals - Buy All Three - Elmo, Cookie & Big Bi

The Standard Poodle is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. For more than ten years, the Poodle has consistently ranked in the American Kennel Club's top ten registered breeds. This confident, dignified breed makes an excellent pet for an owner who wants an active, intelligent dog.

All Poodles are members of the non-sporting group of breeds. Toy Poodles, Miniature Poodles, and Standard Poodles all share the same standards of the breed, the only difference among them being height. A Toy Poodle must not be taller than ten inches at the highest point of the shoulder; a Miniature Poodle must not be taller than fifteen inches at the shoulder; and a Standard Poodle must be taller than fifteen inches at the shoulder.

The Poodle coat is naturally curly and dense and may be black, white, blue, gray, silver, brown and apricot. The coat usually has varied hues of a single color.

The Standard Poodle probably originated as a cross between a Hungarian Water Hound and a French water dog known as the Barbet. The breed's dense, curly coat is somewhat water resistant, and hunters developed the typical Poodle cut, with puffs of hair at the front and rear leg joints, to protect the dogs' joints from the cold during the hunting season.

Although the Germans, the Danes, and the French all claimed at one time or another to be the country where the Standard Poodle breed originated, France has come to be known as the Poodle's country of origin. The French are exceedingly proud of this designation, and the French Poodle occupies a special place in French culture.

The Poodle's intelligence and eager-to-please temperament make it an easy breed to train. Humans have taken advantage of the Poodle's trainability, using the dog as a retriever for bird hunting and as a tracker in truffle hunting. Poodles have also held a variety of jobs in the entertainment industry, as circus performers and performers in modern film and television.

A Standard Poodle in the entertainment industry might become famous through their own talent or through the fame of their owners. Some Poodles are famous because of a combination of their own talent and the fame of their owner. Writer Gertrude Stein and her muse, Alice B. Toklas, had three Poodles whom they named Basket, Basket II and Basket III.

Entertainer "Weird Al" Yankovic posed his Poodle Bela on top of his head for a photograph used on the cover of his "Poodle Hat" album. When wrestling Superstar Rene Dupree, now known as Rene Bonaparte, gives interviews he often refers to his Poodle Fifi.

Poodles have made their mark in literature, film and television. The late author Jacqueline Susann wrote a best-selling novel, Every Night Josephine, about her Poodle, Josephine. The 2000 film Best In Show featured a Poodle named Rhapsody in White as "Butch". The animated TV family in the Rugrats series has a Poodle named Fifi. Most Standard Poodles will never be on the big screen, the small screen or the pages of a novel, but to the individuals and the families who own them, they are superstars.

Lisa Collins is a college professor whose lifelong love of Poodles led to a venture into freelance writing about dogs. The Standard Poodle is a popular breed because of its superior intelligence and pleasant personality. You can get more Poodle information from a Poodle breeder in your area.
