Initially, I thought that hidden object games are only as good as their story suggests, but after each and every fictional treasure hunter gracing my computer screen, it's understandable to grow tired of the same old story pattern. Ancient Secrets is another fictional treasure hunting game, but that's just for show. The game focuses more in its interactive object finding gameplay, and I hope to focus on that in this review.
The story of Ancient Secrets takes you back into the Tekka ruins. I'm not really an expert or anything but after searching for the term, I came to believe that this story is no doubt make-believe. Anyway, the Tekka people are known for their vast resources, which ironically made them the target of barbaric tribes all around the world. The Tekka people locked all these treasures though and the gate's shattered key has its pieces lost, until one day a brave adventurer comes to bring it all back together, and whom the story is obviously referring to you.
The game takes you into a first person view of the female protagonist of the game. Your task is to explore around the area, talk to people, and fulfill tasks given to you in order to put yourself a step closer to a Tekka key piece. Well, arriving at a Tekka key piece is really inevitable, but before you can get to it, you'll have to solve crafty puzzles, play against the locals, and of course, find occasional hidden objects scattered in the whole area.
Each area in Ancient Secrets can be freely explored, but don't expect too much freedom though because you can only go into a particular area when your current path allows you to. And while this feature lets you backtrack through some of the areas you've visited before, the game is not as dynamic as your imagination may suggest, and in reality, follows a straightforward path towards a Tekka key piece.
